Disability in the content

Disability is present, not the subject

About this plan

This plan records what The Long Table podcast, season 4 will do to make its content inclusive, the people with disability it will employ, and when each step happens. Southbank Creative Co.’s Inclusion Partner, Harbourline Access, can help with it. Southbank Creative Co. is accredited by Inclusively Made, and the assessment after the project launches reads this plan: what it records counts towards that year’s score.

What this project will do

18 practices planned for Audio, pillar by pillar.

Inclusive Concept & Research

People with disability shape the concept from the start, not in a final listen-back

Consultation

  • We will consult with a Person with Disability
  • The consultant will be involved in every project stage
  • We will involve people with disability in: Testing the concept or draft mix before finalising

Access Planning

  • We will set aside budget for consultation, access and testing costs

Audience & Media Strategy

  • We will consider whether people with disability are part of our intended audience for this content

Inclusive Representation

Authentic representation of people with disability in voice and on mic

Casting & characters

  • Talent with disability will be cast: in a primary role

Inclusive Work Experience

Structured, paid placements that build careers for people with disability

  • We will offer a structured, paid work experience or mentee placement: In production
  • Each mentee will be paired with a mentor or supervisor for the work they are placed on
  • The mentee will have a clear task list or development plan, not just observation

Inclusive Team Roles

Meaningful, paid employment of people with disability in the team that makes the work

  • At least one paid role will be held by a person with disability: In production

Accessible Documentation

Clear and accessible communications for everyone involved

  • We will use plain, clear language throughout: Scripts and briefing documents

Accessible Locations

Every studio or location people with disability are required to be at must be accessible to them

  • Every space people need to be in will be accessible to them at: Recording studios and locations
  • Accessible toilets will be available: At the recording location

Safe & Inclusive Environment

A commitment to a safe and inclusive workplace for everyone on the project

  • We will share an Inclusion Statement, not just file it, with: The full production team
  • A reporting or grievance process will be in place and communicated

Accessible Distribution

The finished audio is usable by everyone: transcribed, clearly mixed and easy to navigate

Audio

  • A written transcript will be provided: In full, alongside the audio
  • Audio will be mixed for clarity, with minimal background noise interfering with speech comprehension
  • The platform this is delivered on will support accessibility features (variable playback speed, transcript display)
